Wellness Lifestyle Implementation Steps 6/20/10

Did You Know???: one of the benefits of Chiropractic is anti-aging? A study at the University of Lund in Sweden showed that long term (2+ years) Chiropractic maintenance care boosted antioxidant levels in the blood, whereas short term care and no care at all didn't. Why is this important? Aging has been shown scientifically to be caused by oxidative damage, i.e. Free Radicals. Chiropractic maintenance care was shown to boost blood Thiol levels. Thiols are potent antioxidants, i.e. they decrease/neutralize Free Radicals. Therefore, you age at a slower rate. Thiols also slow telomere shortening of DNA which has been shown to be another cause of aging. What a 1-2 punch! Chiropractic boosts Thiol levels which decreases Free Radical damage and increases DNA repair! Don't just sit there and grow old, get to your Chiropractor and preserve your youth and vitality!

Quote Of The Week: "Learn the art of patience. Apply a little discipline to your thoughts when they become anxious over the outcome of a goal. Impatience breeds anxiety, fear, discouragement, and failure. Patience creates confidence, decisiveness, and a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success." -Brian Adams

Goal Of The Week: Go 3 days without eating any pasta, cereal, or bread of any kind and be conscious of how you feel and your energy levels throughout the day.

Experts Explore Emerging Evidence Linking Diabetes And Cancer

Doctor's Soapbox:
This is not a surprising discovery to anyone who is an expert in physiology. Diabetes and cancer share many of the same risk factors. Also, the cause of Type 2 Diabetes (hyperinsulinemia) is a perfect environment for cancer to develop in. Add to that the fact that Type 2 Diabetes is a lifestyle induced disease, and the discovery that diabetes and cancer are linked is no eureka moment at all. Why? Because the same lifestyle that causes Type 2 Diabetes (high processed, unrefined, sugar/acidic food diet, sedentary lifestyle) creates a microenvironment in your body that cancer thrives in. Cancer loves sugar, loves an acidic pH, and loves an anaerobic environment (lack of oxygen due to lack of exercise). The real surprise (not to me but to most physicians I'm sure) is the advice of the writers of this article (American Diabetes Association and American Cancer Society). Instead of recommending drug therapy, they recommend (and I quote):

"Healthy diet, physical activity, and weight management reduce the risk and improve the outcomes of Type 2 Diabetes and some forms of cancer and should be promoted for all."
